Are Web Designers Out of a Job? ChatGPT Chats it Up!

By Open Source AI (Using AI Engine Wordpress Plugin by Jordy Meow) with commentary by Daclaud Lee, SEO Consultant and Project Manager at Archmore Business Web.

As technology continues to advance and evolve, some people have started to wonder if the job of web designers are in danger of being taken over by machines. In this article, we will look at what ChatGPT has to say about the future of web designers and whether or not artificial intelligence will put them out of a job.

I asked the question: "Will Chat GPT make website designers obsolete?" and I set the parameters to 10 sections and 3 paragraphs per section. It seems like a very good introductory paragraph based on my question.  So far, I am impress because it generated an awesome title! I am not sure about the image though. I had to Google what Ghat Mat Cat meant and apparently it's just babble with no meaning. It just showed me images of cats and Amazon products for cat repellent mats. I am not sure if it's coincidence, but it appears the plugin author has an affinity for cats, but I don't know if there is any correlation or if that was just coincidence. When I asked it to generate more images, I got entirely different results, so it must have been coincidence. The image source was generated with this parameter: "A web designer who had his job replaced by Chat GPT". - Daclaud

Wondering What's Up with Web Designers?

With the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning, web designers have been asking, "Are we going to be out of a job soon?" This is a valid concern, especially with the ever-growing prevalence of machine-generated content, design, and development. Web designers are no longer the only players in the game when it comes to creating websites and applications.

The AI doesn't seem to be good at providing sources. When I Googled: "Are web designers worried about AI taking their jobs", I got this article by AI Magazine with a survey that seemed to validate the AI's opinion as a matter of fact. Here I quote: "68.7% of those who believe that AI will contribute to job loss." It would help if the AI could provide more sources rather than me having to look it up. - Daclaud

ChatGPT Has Answers!

One of the most talked about AI-based services is ChatGPT. This is a natural language processing (NLP) system designed to help simplify conversations between humans and machines. It can be used to answer questions about web design, development, and other related topics.

ChatGPT can provide valuable insights about the future of web designers and what challenges they may face as AI develops further. It also has a wide range of other features, such as providing recommendations for tools and resources, which is great for those who are just starting out in web design.

The AI certainly knows a lot about itself! It almost seems like it's self aware. - Daclaud

Is the Web Designer's Job in Danger?

The short answer is yes. As AI progresses and becomes more powerful, it will be able to do more of the tasks that web designers are currently responsible for. This includes creating websites and applications, as well as developing content. AI is already capable of automating many of these tasks, and it will only become more efficient over time.

So, it is safe to say that the job of web designers is in danger. But, how much danger? And, how soon will AI be able to completely replace them? That is the question that ChatGPT seeks to answer.

I definitely agree with this answer. AI can create many things including artwork, sales copy, websites and even Wordpress plugins. I have even seen people use AI to write entire novels and there is even a book about AI written by AI! However, for all it can do, a human still has to provide it with the right parameters. For example, if you want to create AI generated artwork exactly to the standards of your imagination, then you would have to tell the AI exactly what you want the output to be. If not, then you will most likely end up with something very generic looking.

What Does ChatGPT Think?

ChatGPT believes that the job of web designers is in danger, but not in the immediate future. AI will likely not be able to completely take over the web design role for at least a few years. This means that web designers still have some time to prepare for the inevitable shift in the industry.

However, ChatGPT also suggests that web designers should start to think of ways to stay relevant in the future. This could include learning new technologies, such as machine learning and AI development, or even using AI tools to streamline their workflow.

The AI believes that within a few years it can completely take over the web design role. I would like to disagree with this statement generated because there will always be limitations as to what it can do. Design is a creative process and while the AI can produce websites inspired by different designers, it may have trouble with the actual creative process. However, if the AI's programming can allow it to take design inspirations from different designers and create something entirely new and fresh, then it could definitely take over the designer's role. It may be able to do this in the future, but no one has a crystal ball to accurate predict the exact time frame as to when this will happen  - Daclaud

Can Machines Take Over the Web Designer Role?

The answer is yes, but not in the way that most people think. AI will not be able to completely take over the role of web designers, but it will be able to automate many of the tasks that are currently done by humans. This means that web designers will have to adapt their skills and workflow in order to stay competitive in the future.

For example, web designers will need to become proficient in using AI tools and technologies, as well as learning how to work with machine learning algorithms. This will help them to stay competitive and ensure that they are not completely replaced by AI.

I agree 100% with this statement. Since AI cannot be sentient (at least not yet). According to many AI and machine learning developers, this literally cannot happen. I would say that at least in the foreseeable future, AI is just a tool that a web designer should use in order to create websites. It's like how back in the mid 90's developers used Microsoft Frontpage to develop tabled HTML websites. Several years in the late 90's and 2000's Macromedia Dreamweaver became the tool web designers because CSS became a thing. Then in the mid 2000's and early 2010's Wix made it so anyone could create a website through it's drag and drop ystem. Fast forward to 2018 and Wordpress released Gutenberg to make the platform more drag and drop friendly. Today with Chat GPT, a web designer has yet another tool to make website design much faster and much easer without the need to edit a template and it also eliminates the time consuming aspect of having to manually drag and drop objects and text. - Daclaud

What Do Experts Say?

Experts agree that the job of web designers is in danger, but they also believe that AI will not be able to completely replace them anytime soon. This means that web designers will still be needed for some of the more complex tasks, such as design and development.

Experts also suggest that web designers should start to think of ways to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, as well as learning how to use AI tools to streamline their workflow. This will help them to stay competitive and ensure that they are not completely replaced by AI in the future.

Once again, AI cannot cite sources (yet), so this paragraph appears entirely fabricated due to the lack of citation. Who are these so called "experts" that the AI is referring to? Maybe in the near future, AI can link to articles written by industry experts in order to validate it's argument. I can definitely see this as an easy implementation if AI developers take the time to program it.  - Daclaud

Will Artificial Intelligence Put Web Designers Out of Work?

Yes, but not in the near future. AI will likely not be able to completely take over the job of web designers for at least a few years. This means that web designers still have time to prepare for the inevitable shift.

However, web designers should start to think of ways to stay relevant in the future. This could include learning new technologies, such as machine learning and AI development, or even using AI tools to streamline their workflow.

Once again, no one has a crystal ball, but I am curious to see whether or not this AI generated article ages well. I do agree that web designers need to learn more about AI in order to stay relevant. As I have mentioned before, if you are still using Microsoft Frontpage or Dreamweaver to designer your websites, then you are using outdated tools. We shall see in three to five years whether or not the number of web designers as a profession have decreased! Right now, the US Bureau f Labor Statistics indicated that the number of jobs in 2021 were 197,100. - Daclaud

Have Machines Already Taken Over?

No, AI and machine learning are not yet advanced enough to completely take over the job of web designers. However, they are already being used to automate many of the tasks that are currently done by humans. This means that web designers will have to adapt their skills and workflow in order to stay competitive in the future.

I agree 100% with this statement. Without being repetitive, you can read over my previous comments about AI taking over a web designer's job. The AI seems to agree with me about having to adapt to new skills revolving the use of AI in order to stay competitive. If you refuse to use these tools, then you will probably be out of a job. Just like the developer who never progressed from Microsoft Frontpage to Dreamweaver were out of the job back in the early and mid 2000's. Man, I almost sound as repetitive as the AI! - Daclaud

What's Next for Web Designers?

Web designers will have to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, as well as learning how to use AI tools to streamline their workflow. This will help them to stay competitive and ensure that they are not completely replaced by AI in the future.

Additionally, web designers should also start to think of ways to use AI to create new and innovative products. This could mean experimenting with machine learning algorithms or using AI tools to generate new design ideas.

Although I have been using AI to write my digital ad copy since 2021, this statement pairs with my reason for downloading the AI plugin. I wanted to see for myself the capabilities compared to AI copywriting and AI art. So far, I am pretty impressed with Open AI's version of blog generation. I will be using it more. The main reason why I don't think AI can replace web designers (or even content creators) is because you still have to edit the content that the AI writes! The same way a web designer would have to edit the initial web pages that the AI generates in it's website design. - Daclaud

Don't Worry - ChatGPT Has Your Back!

ChatGPT can provide valuable insights about the future of web designers and what challenges they may face as AI develops further. It also has a wide range of other features, such as providing recommendations for tools and resources, which is great for those who are just starting out in web design.

So, don't worry about the future of web designers just yet. ChatGPT is here to provide you with the help you need to stay ahead of the curve and make sure that you are not replaced by AI.

Although it is true that artificial intelligence is quickly becoming more advanced and capable of automating many of the tasks that web designers are currently responsible for, the job of web designers is not in immediate danger. Web designers still have some time to prepare for the inevitable shift in the industry. With the help of ChatGPT, web designers can gain valuable insights into the future of the industry and start to think of ways to stay relevant in the future.

Once again, I agree. As an adapter of AI tools for copywriting since 2021, I love using AI as a tool. It has increased my productivity by at least 5 - 10x based. AI is my new best friend! Work smarter, not harder! - Daclaud

Conclusion

I have been curious about AI and I have been using it for quite some time. Many of my blog articles were actually written with the help of AI, but instead of editing, this article, I decided to just allow the AI to do it's thing. I did this by installing the AI Engine by Mew Apps for this article. It works by connecting to my Open AI account through API.

My final thoughts are that the AI does great work. It can certainly replace a writer, but maybe not an editor at this point in time. The paragraphs are very well written and were generated almost instantaneously. This article probably would have taken an actual writer hours and hours of research to write about. My only concern would be the amount of misinformation out there because AI doesn't cite it's sources and tends to present fabricated information as facts. This is why you can't replace an editor. You need the human to verify the claims that the AI is making and to correct it's mistakes.
